Every time I go to France i spend a very little amount of money and still have a wonderful time. Last time I visited Aix-en-Provence and becasue i took my bicycle, I traveled everywhere with my wife this way and we explored to much inside the villages and towns as well as outside of them. Yes we are in good shape but I think that most people can go to most of the places that we have gone to. France is a gorgeous country with endless places to visit.

It isn't difficult travel in France for 60 Euros a day, plenty of youngsters do it every day. I've cycled and camped over there for an awful lot less, probably 20 Euro a day including wine.

Great advice.
As much as I love Paris, I highly recommend for all travelers to head to the many other regions of the country as they are absolutely beautiful and unique in their own right. From Rouen, Lille, and Mont St.Michel in the North to Avignon, Lyon, Perpignan, Carcasonne, and Nice in the south, there is just so much to see. And all of them have their own culinary specialties.

Eva-
Yeah, "randonees pedestres" are a big deal in France. They're a great network of trails all over rural France that take you from village to village as well as by old castles, historical monuments, etc. I've hiked on quite a few of them in the Alsace region, but only as day trips, and you are always near a village with a great restaurant or patisserie.

They are well marked with color coded signs and can be done as day trips or longer excursions. If your French is in working order, you can check out the French Randonees Pedestres Federation website at http://www.ffrandonnee.fr/.
