December’s halfway gone, but there’s still time to take advantage of these tips from a local New Yawker.

Friend of Trips Matt Stabile, aka TheExpeditioner, has tossed out some priceless (literally) travel tips for anyone heading to New York City this holiday season.

The piece, titled Top 10 Free Things To Do In New York City This December, tells you which big-name museums have free entry when, where you can catch no-cover tunes, and, of course, how to enjoy a Christmas-themed Big Apple on a budget.

Here are the pointers I’d be following if I were in town:

  • Hit up the West Village’s Garage Restaurant for free jazz — any night of the week.
  • Skip the symphony and head to Julliard for free performances by tomorrow’s virtuosos.
  • Instead of getting jostled in Rockefeller Center, check out South Street Seaport’s big tree, plus free chorus carols on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Same deal, only with ice skating. Pass over the film-famous rinks for the one in Prospect Park. If you’re just a watcher, go this Friday (Dec. 18) for “Disco Skate.” Note: It’s not quite free; cost is $5.

For the full list, make sure to visit the original post here. Thanks, Matt!

Amen! I was stupid enough to go to Rock Center last weekend; should’ve known better. For people on Twitter, I highly recommend @newyorkology for more insider tips.
