I was pretty worried about driving in Seoul, but it wasn't too much of a hassle. Granted, I didn't go for a Sunday drive around the whole city, just from the rental agency to the countryside and back. But there are certainly worse cities/countries to drive in.

Chris, exactly right. public transit is great here, and quite english friendly as well. I'm just finishing up a year here myself. ...and I would totally agree that driving in the cities is a bit much, blinker 'suggestions' may even be a bit generous. But it is totally doable and I've had friends do quite well buying cars here, or even scooters. Me? I'm quite content with my ipod in the back of a bus or on the KTX.

A good list of places if you're limited on time. Bear in mind that one doesn't even need to rent a car or plan very far in advance - between the high-speed (300km/hour) KTX train, other trains, intercity buses, and subway systems in the largest Korean cities, public transportation is quite popular and affordable.

BTW, if you drive, try to avoid city driving, ESPECIALLY Seoul. Driving laws are more like suggestions, and no breaks are given to people using signals... I've been in Seoul over a year and haven't exactly seen many people using them...

Thanks guys! Korea is crazy... you could spend a week or several years and not see it all. History, cuisine, people, culture, and even throw some political turmoil into the mix. It's wonderfully complex place, i'm fortunate to be here, and am always willing to share my experiences! Glad you enjoyed the piece.

The nightlife is on Texas Street??? Ahh what a country. I might add there's a convenient ferry to Fukuoka, Japan as well.
